If by “dim” you simply mean making an LED light less bright, there are several ways to do that without installing a dimmer switch. You can use a lower-lumen bulb, reduce the number of bulbs in some multi-bulb fittings, or use a suitable shade or diffuser to soften the light.
But if by “dim” you mean freely adjusting the brightness up and down, the answer is different.
An ordinary LED light cannot continuously change its brightness by itself. Something has to control its light output — whether that's a dimmer, a dimmable driver or another control system.

Why Can't You Simply Dim an LED Without a Dimmer?
A normal wall switch has only two states: on and off.
When it's on, it supplies power to the light. When it's off, it cuts the power.
There is nothing in a standard switch that tells an ordinary LED to operate at 70%, 40% or 10% brightness.
Even if the LED bulb says “dimmable”, that doesn't mean it will dim itself. It means its electronics are designed to respond to a compatible dimming method.
So there is no universal trick that will turn an ordinary LED light into an adjustable dimmable light without something controlling its output.

When buying LED bulbs, don't just look at wattage. Look at the lumen (lm) rating, which tells you how much visible light the bulb produces.
For example, if your current bulb produces 800 lumens and feels too bright, replacing it with a 500-lumen bulb will reduce the light output without requiring any change to the switch or wiring.
The disadvantage is obvious: the new brightness is fixed.
You can make the room darker, but you can't turn it back up when you want more light.
So this works well when your problem is:
“This light is always too bright.”
It doesn't solve:

Some LED bulbs and fittings have step-dimming electronics built into them. They can cycle through several preset brightness levels using an ordinary wall switch.
