Choosing the Right Dimmer Switch

The correct dimmer depends on the lighting load, lamp type and number of control positions required. Repenic rotary dimmers combine tactile control with solid metal finishes and options for conventional, multi-point, 0–10V and Zigbee lighting systems.

Before ordering, confirm whether the connected lamps are dimmable, whether the installation requires control from more than one position and whether the lighting uses standard mains dimming or a separate 0–10V driver.

Universal 2-Way Dimmer Switches

A universal rotary dimmer is suitable for compatible mains-dimmable LED, halogen and incandescent lamps. Selectable leading- and trailing-edge modes help the dimmer work with a wider range of compatible lighting loads.

• Rotary dimming provides direct adjustment from the wall, while pressing the control switches the connected lighting on or off.

0–10V Rotary Dimmers

A 0–10V dimmer is intended for lighting systems that use a compatible 0–10V driver or controller. It is not a direct replacement for a standard mains dimmer and requires dedicated D+ and D− control connections.

• 0–10V control output adjusts compatible drivers, controllers and other equipment designed to accept a 0–10V control signal.
• Switched-live control provides on/off control alongside the separate 0–10V signal.
• 2-way on/off control can be provided from a second position using a compatible conventional switch.
• Extended applications can include compatible motor, pump and fan controllers, provided the connected equipment is designed for 0–10V control and remains within the specified ratings.

Zigbee Smart Dimmers

Where app control, voice control, schedules, automations or energy monitoring are required, choose a compatible Zigbee smart dimmer. Physical rotary control remains available at the wall, so everyday operation does not depend on an app.

• Zigbee 3.0 connectivity provides smart control through a compatible Zigbee platform.
• App and voice control are available when supported by the connected platform and its Alexa or Google Assistant integration.

Solid Metal Finishes

Checking Lamp and Installation Compatibility

Always confirm that the connected lamps are dimmable and that their combined load falls within the selected dimmer’s stated minimum and maximum ratings. Compatibility can vary between lamp manufacturers, drivers and dimming methods.
